Returning to work

Then, finally a dry day again. Praise God!
These last weeks/days have certainly been a challenge and the weather has had a huge part in it. No, luckily no floods and all.
But it hasn’t been much joy to walk in the rain (and strong winds) on several occasions. I haven’t got a hood on my coat nor a hat or something like that so my hair got more ruined every time.
But my kids were dry, thanks to a double buggy that I purchased from someone from the website Magicmum Yay !
I still feel totally blessed for having the possibility to spend more time with my kids, in spite of the fact that life got so much busier and all.
I actually really embraced my new role.
But I really went from thinking, ‘I’m happy to be a SAHM ‘ to I thinking ‘I’m ready now to go back to work’. lol
But this has nothing to do with the kids. At least, it has a little bit, but in a different way than you would think. I want to be able to earn money again so I can buy things for them, at least to be able to spend more of the child benefit for them. But also I’ve been working from home as an Avon rep and I had to take the baby or both kids along sometimes and sometimes through the wind and rain and it was all such a challenge that I thought: I want my normal job back again. I just felt so bad having to do that to them. So I got ready to go back but since the management has changed their mind about me returning to work 5 hours a day I had to decide if I’d start on December 7 or in January. So I asked them if I could come back in December and then take half days off for the whole month of December (since I already had a place at the crèche for the baby for half days from next week) and I was on the phone with the HR supervisor today.
He was going to call me back and I was thinking.: I have to start in about a week time.I’m not ready. (even if it would only be 4 times 4 hours per week.) I don’t want to work!! Help!

And then he called me back and said that it was probably best to start in January because people from the team already were taking days off in December and there were rules that there couldn’t be more people taking leave at the same time.
So I’m starting back on January 11 now.
Officially on the 4th but I'm taking the first week off.
And my parental leave has been approved. Yay !
I’ll be off work every Wednesday.
And the kids both have been accepted at a crèche close by. I’m really happy with that too. I’d been looking into the possibility to leave them with a child minder but they really seem to be quite expensive nowadays

Anyway, I’m okay with starting fresh and being a working mum again in the New year. But I really could’ve used the money I’d be getting just before Christmas. (They always pay the salaries of December before Christmas) Still, I must say that I’m also glad to have one more month at home with the baby.
I’ll just be trusting God to provide.
By the time the baby goes to the crèche, she has started solids and I’m planning to combine bottle and breast-feeding when she is 6 months. So that will all be going well, I assume. So I think it will all be for the best.

I only still need someone to pick my eldest from school and bring her to the crèche. (after school care) Also, I probably need someone who will bring her to school unless hubby can start later. Anyway, we’ll see.
In the meanwhile we’ll see how it goes as Avon rep. I already decided that I won’t be doing rounds during the day anymore, only maybe on Saturday when hubby can mind the kids. And I decided to try other ways to get customers like Avon parties etc.
So we’ll see.

Anyway, if you’d like to receive the latest brochure or you would like to order anything from or you’re interested in hosting an Avon party (you’ll be getting a percentage of the order and gifts) just let me know.

For now, enjoy the rest of your week.

Blessings from Chan.

School break and selling Avon

Sunday 24 october 2009

We went to church today. Hubby doesn’t feel so well, but went to the front for prayer. I didn’t even notice it because I was on stage singing a worship song with the choir, while people were being prayed for and I didn’t look at the people who came to the front but was focusing on God.
He’s sleeping now. I’m trusting the Lord that he’ll feel better by tomorrow, because he has to go to work. He could’ve taken the day off since it’s a bank holiday, but he decided to work because they’ll pay him 200 percent.
Anyway, I’m sure he’ll be fine.
Dd1 is off for the whole week and I felt so relieved and as if I’m having a break myself. It’s not easy waking up early, getting her ready and bringing her to school and collecting her again and in the meantime taking care of the baby.
I’m sure it will get easier eventually and I’m really grateful that I can do these things, but I’m happy that I will be able to sleep in this week and relax a bit.
But then I remembered that I have to collect Avon books and order forms in the morning tomorrow.I just became an Avon representative a week ago. I decided to try that out to have a bit of income since my paid maternity leave will end this week. I’m praying that my Avon business will go well with Gods grace. On Tuesday I have to collect Avon books and order forms as well and I have to take dd2 to the gp for an immunisation too. Oh well, for the rest of the week, we haven’t got anything planned, I think.

Now that I’m cooking everyday I try to cook new things every time.
The first two days I made bami (kind of noodles) with chicken and vegetables in soya sauce and rice, chicken and whole beans These are things that hubby also cooked and we already had the ingredients. But on Wednesday and Thursday I made macaroni with red pepper, carrot and bacon and on Friday I tried a new sauce that I found in Lidl called Chicken Chasseur sauce mix.
It turned out to be very yummie (we all liked it ) and my dd asked me if we could eat it again today. So I’m cooking again today.
I really have to get used to doing so much in the house. (even though I actually should do a lot more) but I’m just so tired lately. I asked hubby to get me vitamins so I’m taking them since yesterday and now that I get the chance to sleep in some more I hope to be feeling much better soon.

Anyway, I was wondering : Do you have a so called home business as well ? If yes, how is it going? I’d love to hear from you.

NB. If you're living in Ireland and are interested in Avon products, check out the website and click on e-brochure for the latest brochure with Avon products. If you like to order or would like to receive a brochure by post let me know.

Have a nice day !

The tables have turned

So investing in a new hair cut and a new suit has paid of. lol.
Hubby's got himself a job. Hallelujah ! Praise God !
I'm so happy ,delighted and grateful to God who does everything on the right time.
This Saturday it's already time for my last maternity benefit payment but I've taken additional leave in faith, trusting the Lord that He would provide. And He has.
Hubby has started his new (temporary) job this week and will get paid on a weekly basis,so by the end of next week he'll probably have his first payment.Isn't God amazing ?

What this means, is that my life has become a little bit busier. I have to get dd1 ready every day and bring her to school and collect her from school every day by foot.(in the rain !)I have to do the grocery shopping by foot, other shoppings by bus, do the house hold and cook everyday. And next to that take care of both kids.
But this is what I've wanted for so long, so it's all good. Glory to God !

I wanted so much to stay home with my kids or at least work part time, which I will probably do from December. So my dream has really come true.
I do have to get used to this new life, but I will get there.
I'm a little bit tired today and decided to take it a bit easy.
Somehow my little baby princess is taking it easy too. lol
She woke up just before I took dd1 to school and she fell asleep on the way to Lidl and is still sleeping. (now by 11:45)

I started to do Avon by the way. And yesterday, I got my first order. Yay !I hope it will work out for me and I can get an extra income from it.

But luckily, hubby's got a job now. So I don't have to worry about earning money.(What a relief !)

Glory to God !

Did you take additional leave as well ? Are you a stay at home mum or do you work full or part time ? I'd love to hear from you.

Blessings and love ....

Child Benefit

I got a request from the Child Benefit Section for information about my employer. So last week I had to go to my work to make them fill in the form, even though I wasn't feeling so well.
I heard something on tv about the new budget for Ireland. Apparently they want to cut child benefit by 20 %. Wow !
There's a lot of discussion about the need of child benefit.I think that there might be people that don't need it and don't even claim it but in these times of recession there are more people who really need it. Even if both parents would work, it helps with the costs for child care. And apart from that and buying necessities for the children and maybe paying their ballet lessons and so on, some people might even need it to help pay the rent, the gas bill etc.Because isn't it true that children need a roof above their heads and need to have those basic needs fulfilled as well ?

My preference would be to use child benefit to get things for the children.
Unfortunately, since I'm on maternity leave and with no other income from hubby's side we needed to use it for other things as well.
Even though, we'd still buy things for the kids when they needed something.
Hopefully this will all change in the near future, when both of us have an income.

Dd1 really needs a new wardrobe. Most of her clothes she has had for 2-3 years, but she's grown a little bit now and it's really time for a bigger size.
It's unbelievable how she stayed in size 86-92 for so long.
She 's around 95 -96 cm now and her arms are a little bit longer and she's just grown a bit bigger. I've finally put some clothes aside now for when the baby's bigger and little by little I'm trying to buy new clothes for her.

The baby needs a lot of stuff as well. I keep postponing buying things because I wonder if those items are really needed and not luxury products .For instance a baby monitor and a sling. Even though there have been times that the baby was crying and I didn't hear her because I was donwstairs and she doesn't really has a loud cry. And sometimes she just wants to be held while I've got a lot to do, so it would be easier to put her in a sling close to me. So to keep her happier those things would be necessities and since she doesn't need food yet, it could be paid with the child benefit money I get for her. Most of the time I just try to buy those necessities when I've got some extra money left from my maternity benefit payment after paying the bills etc.

But I'm curious to know: do you claim child benefit ? And if yes, how do you spend it nowadays ? I'd love to hear from you. Have a nice day !

Sick,but still mommy duties

I have the flu.
Today it was hubby’s turn to get dd1 ready and bring her to school, which means sleeping in for me. And since I was really feeling not well, this was very welcome.
Somehow hubby had trouble with dd1, so I ended up getting her ready again.
She didn’t want to go at first, which made me wonder if she was feeling sick as well.
First she said that she was sick but later after talking to her and asking her if she really didn’t want to go, she decided that she would go after all.
So despite not feeling well and quite wobbly, I got her ready as fast as I could and hubby drove her to school. I also asked him to get me some medicine.

I stayed in bed for the most of the morning. Hubby brought me paracetamol with a cup of water and I got breakfast and tea in bed. Wow ! But later I went down to do some stuff on the pc like check the balance of my bank account.
Hubby got a phone call from a job agency about a vacancy.
They wanted to meet him today and hubby wanted to get a hair cut, so I needed to check if we can afford that. He ended up buying a new suit at Lidl as well. He wanted to make a good impression. Lol

Anyway, because of hubby’s plans I needed to adjust my plans to go back to bed.
Because he’s going to his course after the interview, I needed to iron his newly bought suit and make a bun for dd1.
And I have to cook dinner even though I’m sick. Just so dd1 has something to eat.

And I actually have been spoilt by hubby when it comes to cooking. Since he didn’t have a job and I was working fulltime, he was the one cooking dinner every day.
When I went on maternity leave I left it all like it was.
I really had become a bit lazy. I kept planning to cook a few days a week.
But it’s so easy when someone else does it. lol

But so today I have to cook.
I decided for something easy and that would mean lentil soup.
It’s one of those meals of which we know that dd1 likes it and that she’s going to eat it.

9.17 pm We were wrong. We didn't have chopped tomatoes and despite of me being so 'creative' and putting ketchup instead dd says the meal is not the same because it is yellow. I'm sure that it really tastes (almost) the same.
I can't wait for hubby to return home so I can sleep.

I must say that we all went to my room and I dozed off a couple of times while dd was watching a video.
Well, I probably really slept because I hadn't noticed that dd had gone downstairs to get bread and salami and had made herself some sandwiches to eat instead of dinner.
When I told her that she was not listening to me and had been naughty (I had told her she would not get bread but she needed to eat her dinner instead) and noticed that I really wasn't happy with her behaviour, she said a couple of times with a little voice: 'Sorry mommy' and came up to me to give me a hug and a kiss.
Well what can you say against that ? (Sigh)

She just came down the stairs with her baby sister, telling me she had changed her nappy. Remember, she's four years old.....Oh my word..
I really don't know what to say. I'm just happy she didn't fall of the stairs with the baby. Ofcourse she means well.(sigh)

Hope hubby is back soon. But it's also about sleepy time for dd1.
So, off to bed...
Have a good night....

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog.

I’m a mother of two who is currently on maternity leave.
God has blessed us with a first daughter almost 5 years ago and again with a second gorgeous little baby girl almost 4 months ago.
I was born in the Netherlands but my parents are originally from Suriname, which is in South- America. (This used to be a Dutch colony and their main language is still Dutch) Two and a half years ago I moved to Ireland together with my husband and daughter.

This blog will be about motherhood, the joys and challenges that it brings to my life. It's about being a mum and woman.

I hope that you will enjoy reading my blog.
