Our past weekend part 1: Family day at RUA RED

*This post about our past weekend is published a little later than I originally planned because I had a very busy week so far.

I love it when I hear about a family event somewhere and I love it even more when I actually get to go to it. Sometimes they are just too far or not easy to reach with public transport. So I was thrilled to be able to take the kids to two events this past weekend. I’ve decided to write about the events in two separate posts. One post today and the other post will be published tomorrow.

Last Saturday the RUA RED in Tallaght had a family event called The Gathering Open day. I’ve been to RUA RED before with my 8 year old Ixora. We attended the Art Trolley on Saturday morning a couple of times. And I knew that they have other activities for kids that I was interested in and I was curious to know what there would be on that day. So after shopping a little on the carboot sale in Tallaght Stadium, we went to the Square and saw the last part of a show by a magician.

He was surrounded by people so while the kids went to sit on the floor next to the other kids, I waited at a table a bit further away. According to Ixora, he changed two doves into a rabbit and all the kids got a chance to pat a dove and the rabbit. In the end, he shaped a balloon into a little mouse for every child.
I looked at the program and there was a workshop called ‘Sing your socks off.’And since my kids love singing I thought it would be nice to go to. Ixora wasn’t interested and when we arrived in the room where the workshop was being held, and I asked about the ages, we heard that it was for children from 1- 4 years old.

There is a music class for toddlers in the RUA RED where I always wanted to go to but kept postponing till I could afford it more and this seemed to be a free trial session of that. The smallies loved it, especially Nevaeh. They really joined in with everything. I liked all the different activities that she did with them.

I’m really sure now that I would love to put Yovannah and Nevaeh in this music class but I probably won’t be able to because it is on Monday from 3-4 and I will be in college then. The costs are 10 euro per week. For siblings it is 8 euro per person.

There were some other events simultaneously so unfortunately, we couldn’t go to those. They also did mapping of Tallaght residents and when we were standing before the map and I asked Ixora if she saw South America a woman approached me excitedly asking if she could add me to the map, since they had no one who had lived in South America yet . It was funny to see that my dot was the only one in that area and then a long single line from the dot in the Netherlands to the dot in South America.
I’m sure there should be a few more or at least from America in Tallaght but perhaps they just didn’t make it to the event.
