The kids love......Gnomeo and Juliet.

I originally wrote this post a while back just before my laptop broke.

After watching dvd’s every day for a month in the Summer (because of our Summer pass), I was relieved that we didn’t have to go to the dvd place every day anymore.
Yes , I know we never really had to but we didn’t want to miss the chance to get a dvd most days and you could always only keep them for one day and then you had to go back to return them or renew them. So we just kept going every day and then we took new ones again, except for two times or so that we managed to get the Xtravision on the phone to renew the loans we had.
When we brought back the last dvd, I allowed Ixora to choose one dvd to buy. She chose one that she had never seen before. Gnomeo and Juliet.
And she loved it. Gnomeo and Juliet turned out to be a big hit with the kids:a dvd the kids would watch over and over again. I didn’t pay much attention to it at first, but since they love this dvd so much I decided to make a post about it.

I’ve seen most parts of it by now and I must say that I can understand why they love  it so much. I like it a lot myself which means that it is a real family movie.
It is an animated movie made in the UK and the story is about two gnomes who live in two gardens next to each other and who accidently meet and fall in love.
It’s about all the problems that this brings with it since they belong to two different groups of gnomes:  the reds and the blues who don’t live in peace with each other. It is somewhat of a parallel of the story of Romeo and Juliet, as you can see from the name of the movie, even though it is a totally different story. The movie is full of Elton John songs which I really like.

It’s a fun, romantic movie and I would definitely recommend it as a family movie.
Have your children watched this movie? What do they think about it?

I'd love to hear from you.

Kids picks (Christmas gifts)

Here in Ireland most people normally do their Christmas shopping well in advance. From October/ November you will hear people asking each other a lot : 'Have you started your Christmas shopping yet ? ' There will always be special sales in all the shops starting around that time or maybe even earlier. There will especially be great discounts on toys. But in the almost seven years that I have been living here, I have never really started shopping for Christmas gifts in advance. I usually by my gifts just before Christmas Day.
Only this year, I joined in with the early Christmas shopping and started getting some bits in from a few weeks ago. Maybe I got a bit influenced by the people that I work with on my work placement in a Montessori. But I really love knowing that the kids will at least have a few new things that they need or that they would like to have, on Christmas Day and not having to try to get something for them last minute. And I like that I got to divide the costs a bit this way, by getting a few small things every now and then. I don’t have any family here or really close friends so I only have to shop for my own little family wich means that I don't have a lot to buy. I only started to get some bits for the kids.
It is actually quite exciting : buying something and then hiding it in the cupboard. It is quite fun that you have some cool things that you know that the kids will love and that they don't know about it.

I am not sure if I will be able to afford more than just a few smaller gifts but I did look at some things with the kids and asked them what they liked. So this post is to share a bit of what is on their wish lists.

Ixora (my almost 9 year old) this year mostly wants to get books, books, books and more books. Ixora has been reading books from a book series called 'A series of unfortunate events by Lemony Snicket ' which she borrows at school and now she is looking forward to owning the newest edition of the last book, but she also her eyes on some other books.

Apart from this, she also would love to have a Chemistry set and Microscope set.

18.99 euro  Kleeneze

Yovannah (4,5 years old ) likes anything Hello kitty and she and Nevaeh would love to have some make up and she loves dressing tables and toy hair tools. So a Hello Kitty dressing table would be something she would love. I saw one that includes some make up. I'm not sure if the one from ARGOS has that included.

36.99 euro in ARGOS

Both Nevaeh and Yovannah really love taking pictures and keep stealing my camera so this is also something that she would love to have.

38.99 euro in Boots.

A week or so ago Nevaeh (My 2 year old ) saw a flyer with a pink VTECH Innotab 3 in it and she is been in love with it since then. She’s always been very interested in Ixora’s tablet so she’d love to own her own little tablet and the cool thing is that it takes pictures as well so she will stop taking my camera every time to take pictures.

The VTECH Innotab 3 and VTECH Innotab 3 S are for kids from 3-9 years old and since she will be three in February it probably will be suitable for her.

VTECH Innotab 3
48.99 (on sale in ARGOS for half of the normal price of 97.99)

I saw that they had it for half price in ARGOS but they seem to be sold out so maybe I’ll just get it for her on her birthday. We’ll see.

Apart from this, she likes anything Peppa pig. She also loves the idea of her own camera like the kidizoom.
55,99 euro in ARGOS.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet ?

What is high on the wish list of your kids ?

I’d love to hear from you.

Blessings and love,

What I've been up to lately...

After swimming in seas of laptoplessness and internetlessness for weeks, I finally have a working laptop again and some internet access. Yay !
Now to get back to blogging, is a totally different thing.
But here we are giving it a try.
I feel a bit guilty for not being able to maintain my blog and not being able to keep in contact with all the bloggy friends that I've made. So I apologise for all of that...

So what have I been up to in the past weeks ?

Apart from following college classes, reading books for college, doing work experience and doing homework and assignments, I started a new hobby and went back to an old one.

Being in college can be stressful sometimes so I am certainly happy and pleased that I found these hobbies, that give me the opportunity to relax a little bit.
In college I joined the group 'Knit and natter' which is held during lunch break once a week. I haven't knitted yet but since I was taught crochet as a child I started with that, just trying to get better at it. My ultimate goal would be to be able to make cute animal hats but so far I haven't attempted one yet. I found it an amazing experience to start with crochet. It is such a relaxing activity.
One of my favourite memories is. when I was watching a crochet tutorial on youtube the other day and my two your old had grabbed a ball of yarn and my crochet needle and stood in front of the laptop, pretending to do crochet. So cute !
I'm making a scarf now with some wonderful yarn from Aldi called 'baby yarn' which has a lot of different colours. I stopped it for now, since the children messed up the yarn and I had to cut it .And now it is going to look different unless I find a similar thread to continue, so that's why it is on hold at the moment. I also attempted to make an owl.

At the moment we are doing a project : making quilts in the shape of a christmas tree.
We are sewing them by hand. This is the first time that I made something like this so it didn't come out perfectly but I'm still happy and proud of it. When it is totally finished I will do a seperate post on it.
I enjoyed sewing the little squares together and it really has improved my hand sewing skills.

This year I've been reading a bit about homemaking and proverbs 31 and I wanted to start mending clothes by hand and so this little project has given me some confidence in that.
I mended a pair of trousers today and was really satisfied with the result.

I'm looking forward to learning how to sew with a sewing machine soon.

Apart from starting to be a bit more creative, I've also started reading again.
At the moment I'm reading a book by Joyce Meyer called 'A leader in the making'

It talks about how God looks at our heart attitude and that this needs to be right, before God can use us in a ministry. I'm really blessed by this book. It is so inspiring and has really helped me to change the way I reacted in certain situations. In between, I've read a few other books.
I just finished reading the best seller 'About a girl.' by Lindsey Kelk.

It is a bit of a romantic book about an ordinary girl. I also read it to learn from the writing since as you might know I'm trying to finish writing a book and then get it published one day. I really like the way it is written and that it is unpredictable. She even gave it an open end.  So you have to read the next book to know what is going to happen next. It's the kind of book that is like an escape, especially since the setting is Hawaii. Even though the main character makes choices I wouldn't make myself, she is so very likable that she almost becomes a friend.

Well, that's what I've kind up been upto lately.  I hope to be writing in here more often again.

If you're new here, welcome ! And I hope that you keep coming back to read more.

What have you been doing lately ? Did you start any new hobbies ? I'd love to hear from you.

Blessings and love,
