A little bit of garden inspiration

One of the things that I don't like about being (a) (reasonably new) single (mum) is that you have to do everything yourself and/or on your own. I guess that is why a lot of things still have not been done in my house. That and the lack of a savings account. But seriously, I don't even have my curtains hanging the way they should. And I guess I would have had that done, if there was a man living here in the house or if someone would have showed me how.
I counted on my mum -who used to be a single mum at some time too and who to me seemed to be able to do just anything and who was here in the Netherlands on a holiday a few months ago- to teach me how to be an independent single mum and direct me in how to hang up my blinds but unfortunately it didn't happen. My blinds are still in the same plastic packaging as they have been for a couple of months now. They are now waiting for me to make an appointment with a 'handy man' who then also will do some painting in my hou…

A few more goals for May (Day 8)

It has not been easy to make sure to post on my blog every day. I normally don’t have posts done in advance, ready to be published. I had a few on my old laptop but i lost them when the hard drive broke. And I have two on this one and one on paper somewhere, which are not completely finished or need to be updated but I don’t really feel like doing those posts either. And lately I have been playing a game online which just takes up your time (haha, I do it instead of watching tv though ) and so these last two days I only started writing a post, when I thought about going to bed. Bad, I know !
Since it is an hour later in Ireland and my blog still has Irish time, I still managed to publish ‘on time.’ But for the coming time I’m going to try to start writing some posts in advance. School starts again tomorrow so I will be starting with a new daily schedule and I have set some time apart to spend on blogging and blog-related things. Doing the 30 day challenge of wearing dresses and skirt…

Little home makers in the making (Day 7)

I don’t remember that I had to do much in the house when I was a child. In a way I wish I had, because it gives you a good foundation in life. I find it very important, especially for girls, that they are being taught house hold skills from a young age. Now that I am a single mum, it is also very important to get the help from my girls. My girls can normally make a lot of mess. Especially my youngest.  It is often the case that I have just tidied up somewhere and a few minutes after she has arrived in the area it is as if a bomb has exploded. It is as if you did not just spend a few hours tidying up. It can be quite frustrating and I am sure that a lot of other mums can relate to it.
I once saw in a tv program for single mums, a mum with four kids who taught her kids to help out, because she saw them all as a team. That really spoke to me. That is how it is. You are a new family, you are team with your children and together you are responsible for everything going smoothly in the hou…

A look inside my kitchen

Well, as you know we are currently visiting my mum in Suriname and she is so kind to let us stay in her house. Our lease for the house we rented in Ireland finished so we moved out before we came here. I can't wait though to find another house to call home and to take up the challenge to really turn it into a home.
I saw this book on Amazon the other day that I really would love to have.
I read the sample of it and was already so blessed by it.
She also talks about how she has rented a lot of houses but it never stopped her from turning  it into a home. I can't wait to get it and read it.

It is called The Nesting Place and you can find it at Amazon.
Hopefully I can do a review on it another time.

I always wanted to share my kitchen with you so I decided to finally do it.

In the kitchen the landlord had two paintings of poppy flowers and this inspired me to decorate my kitchen. I went crazy buying red stuff or red/white stuff and enjoyed decorating my kitchen.

A toddler bedroom tour: Peppa pig room

I never really had baby rooms for my babies. So after we brought Nevaeh home, she had a little corner in my room. She had her crib, a changing unit and closet in my bedroom with her clothes in it and a nappy stacker on the door. But I always planned on getting her, her own bedroom one day. I saw video’s on youtube of baby rooms in the bird theme and fell in love with that theme. I loved the Pottery Barn theme and wanted to give her a room with birds and owls, a little bit like in that theme. So I started shopping last year and thinking of ideas for her room. I never really got to making that room though. Apart from hanging up a frame or two, it always stayed a plan.

This Summer Yovannah got her own Hello Kitty room for her birthday and afterwards we also did the other bedrooms. Nevaeh and Yovannah are really close and they both love Peppa Pig a lot. And Nevaeh now loves Peppa pig a bit more than Yovannah does. So when we asked her what kind of room she wanted she said a Peppa pig roo…

Testimony Thursday: He gives the desires of our heart

Like I mentioned before in a post, I’m not the most organized person but I would love to be organized. I always loved the idea of having a nice home. But somehow I didn’t seem to manage to have it for long. I was too busy and too tired to keep it up or often I felt down and/or stressed and then that stopped me from being able to do much.
But God promised in His word that He will give us the wishes of our heart.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 NIV
I'm feeling better in general -thanks to God- and this Summer I took some time to de-clutter the house. There is still much more to do, but we had a great start. I was able to make some changes here and there and to decorate the house a bit in the way I liked. I couldn’t afford expensive things but I picked up things here and there and got a lot from the carboot sale as well. It's almost hard to believe the treasures that you can find there for only a little bit of money.
And I’m…
